----------------------------- Welcome to Prehistoric Sounds - A record cover site -----------------------------
Visit my Guestbook and leave some feedback or you can just visit my blog and browse through the posts.
This site was put together to provide some sort of visual history of record and cassette releases from a great era of Australian music. For people who were there it should bring back a lot of memories, as it does for me as I'm putting the site together. The artwork on this site has preserved the atmosphere of the era, almost as good as the music does. It contains covers from my record collection and also from friends who have kindly supplied covers. The record cover art on these releases would sometimes be the only images you would ever get to see of any of the bands with some of these bands existing and touring only briefly. Australian mainstream radio widely ignored a lot of the independent artists and the only way of hearing them would be the community run radio stations like 4ZzZ fm in Brisbane and 3RRR in Melbourne. All of the record covers on this site have been scanned off records and not CDs so there are some covers that I had on vinyl and replaced with CDs in my collection that have not been included. (A stupid thing to do in hindsight but who was to know ?) The dates bands were together is approximate only, I have also decided to put a list of band members on and have tried to include all of the people who were in the bands (see "BOOKS USED FOR REFERENCE"), not just the people who were on the recordings and they appear in no particular order.
If anyone knows any of the information to be wrong please do not hesitate
to email me and I will update the information. If you have any covers you would like me to put on the site email me and I would be happy to credit you.
Just visit the Cover Archive for the complete list and don't forget my links page for other great sites.
Thanks for visiting Prehistoric Sounds.
